Nick was introduced to the Math Circles concept and practice by James Taylor (then a math and computer science teacher at Santa Fe Preparatory School) in 2007. A year later, Nick began assisting James in running a Math Circle that met monthly for a year or so at the Santa Fe Complex. Starting in 2015, Nick began participating in the Math Teachers' Circle of Santa Fe, co-leading the activities on occasion.
In 2016, James and Nick, together with Lina Germann (founder of STEM Santa Fe and adjunct faculty at Santa Fe Community College) started coordinating a variety of Math Circles-related activities under the umbrella of the Math Circles Collaborative of New Mexico. These activities include the ongoing Math Teachers' Circle of Santa Fe, the Julia Robinson Math Festival held in Santa Fe in February 2017 (the first JRMF held in New Mexico), and The Missing "M" in STEM project.
